Analytical Hierarchy Process Model
This page contains information on the AHP decision model and examples that can be used as a starting point for building your own models.
The first and the most important step in the Analytic Hierarchy Process that determines the entire process of multi-criteria evaluation is building a decision model. Decision model contains a list of alternatives and a hierarchy of criteria.
List of alternatives contains "things" that will be evaluated (such as projects, employees, suppliers, etc). When creating a list eliminate alternatives that don't meet minimum requirements and thus don't have a chance to be chosen. If you generate alternatives (e.g. projects or strategies) consider hybrids - alternatives built from the parts of other alternatives.
Hierarchy of criteria contains criteria that will be taken into account during evaluation, ordered from general to specific ones. Criteria that are higher in the hierarchy are used to determine the importance (weights) of bottom criteria. Bottom criteria are the context for alternatives evaluation. When looking for criteria consider weaknesses and strengths of each alternative as it may help you to identify new criteria.
